**”Desperate Housewives” Star Marcia Cross Faces Backlash, Named “Antisemite of the Week” for Anti-Israel Comments**
LOS ANGELES, CA – Actress Marcia Cross, best known for her role as Bree Van de Kamp in the hit series “Desperate Housewives,” is facing intense criticism after being labeled “Antisemite of the Week” by the Jewish watchdog group StopAntisemitism. The organization accuses Cross of spreading antisemitic rhetoric and demonizing Israel through her social media posts.
Cross, a vocal pro-Palestinian activist, has accused Israel of genocide and likened its actions in Gaza to the Holocaust, a comparison StopAntisemitism deemed “grotesque.” She has also claimed the U.S. and other countries are aiding and abetting Israeli atrocities.
In a series of posts on X and Instagram, Cross has used inflammatory language, including an expletive-laden message directed at Israel and its supporters. She has also accused Israel of “controlling” U.S. politicians and questioned the purpose of Holocaust museums “if they are silent in the face of genocide.”
StopAntisemitism founder Liora Rez stated, “Her posts recycle classic antisemitic tropes, trivialize Jewish suffering, and deny Jewish legitimacy – language that puts Jewish communities at real risk both online and offline.” The group is launching a public pressure campaign, urging Cross’s talent agency to drop her.
Cross’s activism comes in the wake of the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the taking of numerous hostages. Despite the provocation, Cross has consistently portrayed Israel as the aggressor.
“Marcia Cross has moved from being recognized for her acting to being notorious for spreading dangerous antisemitic rhetoric,” Rez said. “With nearly a million followers, she uses her platform not for advocacy, but to demonize Israel, excuse Hamas, and promote violence against Jews.”
Cross, who survived anal cancer and became an advocate for awareness and disease prevention, has yet to respond to requests for comment. The controversy threatens to overshadow her successful acting career, which includes Emmy and Golden Globe nominations and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
