Tue Sep 23 00:30:00 UTC 2025: **FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -** In a shocking move, the Atlanta Falcons have named Parker Romo their starting kicker, replacing veteran Younghoe Koo ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Carolina Panthers. The team announced the decision Friday, releasing Koo and signing Romo to the active 53-man roster.

Head Coach Raheem Morris cited Romo’s perfect 5-for-5 performance in last Sunday night’s win against the Minnesota Vikings, which included a 54-yard field goal, as the deciding factor. “We’re going to go with Romo,” Morris said Friday. “He earned it last week… and you gotta go with that again.”

Romo, a Peachtree City native and McIntosh High School alum, was signed to the Falcons’ practice squad during Week 2 following Koo’s missed 44-yard field goal in the final seconds of the team’s Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 28-year-old kicker, who made his NFL debut this year, expressed his excitement about playing for his hometown team, calling it “a dream come true.”

Special teams coordinator Marquice Williams praised Romo’s ability to perform under pressure in a hostile environment, also crediting holder Bradley Pinion and long snapper Liam McCullough for their contributions to a smooth operation.

However, Romo was not able to carry that over to the Week 3 game as he missed both of his field goal attempts and the Falcons lost to the Panthers 30-0.
