Tue Sep 23 03:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Packers Coach LaFleur Blames Technique, “Catastrophic Event” for Costly Blocked Field Goal in Loss to Browns

**GREEN BAY, WI** – Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur didn’t mince words Monday when explaining the blocked field goal that ultimately cost his team the game against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. According to LaFleur, a breakdown in technique and poor leverage led to the game-changing play.

“Unfortunately we got lifted, and we played with poor pad level, we didn’t take the correct steps and just didn’t perform the right technique,” LaFleur said, referring to the Packers’ field goal protection unit. “So if you don’t do that against a really good team that’s going to rush hard, you’re susceptible to having a catastrophic event occur.”

The block, credited to Browns defensive tackle Shelby Harris, prevented Brandon McManus’ 43-yard attempt from giving the Packers a late lead. LaFleur also suggested that Denzel Ward coming around the edge may have contributed to the block.

Beyond the blocked field goal, LaFleur expressed frustration with the offense’s overall performance, which resulted in a mere 10 points. Penalties and an interception plagued the team, hindering their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.

Specifically, LaFleur cited a critical third-and-short sack, which occurred when quarterback Jordan Love failed to throw the ball away. LaFleur also lamented a promising drive in the first half that was derailed by a series of penalties and sacks, squandering a chance to extend their lead.

“When you put yourself in a scoring position, you can’t take yourself out of it, and that’s exactly what happened,” LaFleur stated.

On the injury front, safety Javon Bullard is currently in concussion protocol. Defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt is considered day-to-day with an unspecified injury. Right tackle Zach Tom re-aggravated his oblique injury early in the game and was unable to return. Tight end Tucker Kraft played through a knee injury sustained during practice.

Despite the loss and the mounting challenges, LaFleur emphasized the need for consistency and capitalizing on opportunities. He also took accountability for his own play-calling decisions that contributed to the offensive struggles. The Packers will need to quickly address their shortcomings if they hope to rebound in their upcoming games.
