**Mumbai, September 23, 2025** – Heavy rainfall in western Maharashtra and the Marathwada region over the past 24 hours has resulted in one fatality due to a lightning strike and left 14 people stranded in floodwaters, authorities reported today.

The worst affected districts include Dharashiv, Beed, Jalna, and Solapur, with Dharashiv recording the highest rainfall at 65 mm. The Marathwada region as a whole has been hit hard, impacting agricultural lands and livelihoods.

Emergency services, including an Air Force helicopter and a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been deployed to rescue stranded individuals. Twelve people were rescued from Lakhi village in Dharashiv district by helicopter. Two others were trapped in Barshi, Solapur due to Sina river flooding.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has instructed officials to remain on high alert and provide all necessary assistance to affected populations. “All government agencies are on alert. The government is with the people affected due to rains and will help in every possible way,” he stated.

This is the second instance in two months that the region has experienced severe flooding, causing significant damage to kharif crops such as soybean, cotton, and turmeric. Relief and Rehabilitation Minister Makarand Jadhav-Patil has announced a financial aid package of ₹689.52 crore for farmers, with a significant portion allocated to Nanded district.

Agriculture Minister Dattatrey Barne assured farmers that the government is committed to assessing and compensating for losses. “We are doing the panchnama (documentation of losses)…Once the rain stops, the government will announce further compensation. In the coming 15 days, things will be resolved,” he said.

The government is urging residents in affected areas to exercise caution and cooperate with rescue efforts. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
