Mon Sep 22 14:19:09 UTC 2025: ## Nepal’s Interim Government Strengthens as New Ministers Take Office
**Kathmandu, Nepal – September 22, 2025:** Nepal’s interim Prime Minister, Sushila Karki, bolstered her cabinet today with the addition of four new ministers. The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by President Ram Chandra Paudel, took place at the presidential office in Kathmandu.
The newly appointed ministers include Anil Kumar Sinha, a former Justice, as the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies; Mahabir Pun, founder of the National Innovation Centre, as the Minister for Education and Science and Technology; Jagdish Kharel, a journalist, as the Minister for Communication and Information Technology; and Madan Pariyar, an expert, as the Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
The addition of these ministers brings the Karki-led Council of Ministers to a total of eight. While the Nepalese Constitution allows for a cabinet of up to 25 members, Prime Minister Karki has indicated that her interim government may be capped at 11.
The appointments come less than two weeks after Ms. Karki assumed the premiership on September 12th, following the removal of K P Sharma Oli amid widespread protests, fueled by youth-led opposition to corruption and social media restrictions.
The original announcement included Sangita Kaushal Mishra as a prospective minister, but she was subsequently dropped due to an ongoing investigation by the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) into alleged corruption.
Prime Minister Karki has already appointed Kulma Ghising as Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Physical Planning; Rameshwor Khanal as Minister for Finance; and Om Prakash Aryal as the Home Minister. The interim government is tasked with leading Nepal until the next general election, scheduled for March 5th.
