**Bengaluru, September 22, 2025:** Hombale Films has released the highly anticipated trailer for “Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1,” the prequel to the 2022 Kannada blockbuster “Kantara.” The film, directed by and starring Rishab Shetty, is set to hit screens on October 2nd, 2025, in Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
The trailer offers a glimpse into a fierce and brutal world, showcasing Shetty as a warrior defending villagers against a tyrannical king. The narrative is heavily rooted in folklore and faith, exploring the origins of the traditions and ancestral conflicts depicted in the original “Kantara,” which revolved around the Bhuta Kola worship in coastal Karnataka.
Hombale Films and Rishab Shetty have opted for a subdued promotional strategy, revealing the cast gradually, with Rukmini Vasanth playing Kanakavathi and Bollywood’s Gulshan Devaiah portraying Kulashekara. The film is touted to explore the legacy of the Kadambas, delving deeper into the mythology of the region.
Original “Kantara” collaborators, including music composer Ajaneesh Loknath and cinematographer Arvind Kashyap, are on board for the prequel. Recent reports also reveal that Diljit Dosanjh has joined the project for a special song.
The makers are banking on positive word-of-mouth for the big-budget project, with over 2500 theatres scheduled to screen paid premiere shows on October 1st, a day before the official release.
The production has also been marked by tragedy, with the passing of mimicry artist Kalabhavan Niju and actor Rakesh Poojary, as well as an accident involving a crew member drowning. Rishab Shetty and 30 crew members escaped unhurt after a boat capsized during filming.
Despite these challenges, anticipation remains high for “Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1,” with audiences eager to return to the world of folklore and explore the origins of the legend.
