**Netflix Releases True-Crime Thriller “Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story”**
**Winter Garden, FL – September 14, 2025** – The harrowing true story of Marcela Borges and her family’s terrifying ordeal in 2009 has been brought to life in the new Netflix film, “Terror Comes Knocking: The Marcela Borges Story,” released this month.
In November 2009, Borges, then 27 and pregnant, her husband Rubens Morais, 48, and their 5-year-old son, Ryan, were brutally taken hostage during a home invasion in their Winter Garden residence. Four masked gunmen invaded their home, blindfolded the family, and demanded $200,000. When the family explained they did not have the money, the intruders subjected them to three days of torture, even after Borges withdrew nearly $24,000 from the bank.
On the third day, Borges bravely confronted her captors, tearing the mask off one of the female intruders before making a daring escape. Despite being shot in the process, Borges managed to alert a neighbor, leading to the rescue of her husband and son.
The film stars Dascha Polanco as Marcela Borges, Jonathan Sousa as Rubens Morais, and Alessio Andrada as Ryan. It chronicles the horrific events and Borges’ courageous fight for survival and the safety of her family.
Following the ordeal, authorities identified Bianca Dos Santos, then 21, as the alleged mastermind behind the crime, believing she obtained information about the family from her mother’s tax business. Dos Santos remains at large.
Three male accomplices, Oscar Diaz Hernandez, Miguel Diaz Santiz, and Victor Manuel Sanchez, were apprehended. Sanchez and Santiz were convicted and sentenced to life in prison. Charges against Hernandez were later dropped by Borges.
The Borges family, now including their second son Lucas, who they welcomed after the incident, now live a private life in Florida. Marcela Borges went on to pursue further education, studying at Valencia College and the University of Central Florida.
