**Purdue University Sees Record Applications, Most Selective Class in History**

**WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Sept. 16, 2025)** – Purdue University is experiencing unprecedented demand, receiving a record 86,953 applications for its incoming undergraduate class of Fall 2025. This marks the 14th consecutive year of record application numbers for the renowned land-grant university.

The surge in applications has led to Purdue’s most selective incoming class to date. While the in-state undergraduate admissions rate remains steady at 71%, the out-of-state rate has dropped to 39%. Reflecting the academic caliber of the applicant pool, the average SAT score of admitted students has reached a new high of 1,337, along with an impressive average GPA of 3.81. Notably, 97% of admitted students submitted standardized test scores.

Graduate programs are also experiencing a boom, with new PhD applications jumping by 17% to a record 11,468, and master’s applications hitting an all-time high of 12,717.

Purdue’s commitment to student success is evident in its record-breaking four- and six-year graduation rates, now at 68.3% and 84.6%, respectively. The average time-to-degree has also reached an all-time low of 3.84 years.

“Once again, a record number of students want to join us in West Lafayette and Indianapolis, and we couldn’t be more thrilled,” said Purdue Provost Patrick Wolfe. “With new student housing coming online this summer and next, we’re prepared to welcome a larger and extremely academically well-prepared class to campus next year.”

This fall, Purdue welcomes 8,914 new undergraduates and 3,189 new graduate students in West Lafayette, along with 666 new undergraduates and 30 new graduate students in Indianapolis. Furthermore, the university welcomes over 900 new transfer undergraduates, nearly half of whom come from Ivy Tech and other Indiana institutions.

“Purdue is committed to providing numerous and varied pathways for Indiana students to become well prepared and to access outstanding, affordable higher education,” said Cherise Hall, Purdue’s vice provost for enrollment management.

Despite increased demand, Purdue remains dedicated to affordability, maintaining its tuition freeze for the 14th consecutive year at $9,992 for Indiana residents and $28,794 for out-of-state students. This dedication reaffirms Purdue’s commitment to accessibility and its mission as a leading public research university.
