The ATP Tour saw its share of surprises and hard-fought victories this week as tournaments in Chengdu and Hangzhou heated up.

**Chengdu Open Sees Top Seed Survive, Upset Reigning Champ**

Lorenzo Musetti, seeded first in the Chengdu Open, overcame a shaky start to defeat Croatia’s Dino Prizmic 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 in a two-hour, 16-minute battle. Musetti admitted to feeling tension in his first match back after a two-week break but ultimately found his rhythm in the deciding set. He’ll face Nikolas Basilashvili in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Brandon Nakashima ended Shang Junchen’s reign as champion, defeating him 7-5, 6-3. Nakashima will face fellow American Marcus Giron in the next round. There was another Italian casualty as second-seeded Lorenzo Darderi fell to Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo. Tabilo will next face Chris O’Connell. Qualifier Taro Daniel also pulled off an upset, ousting third-seeded Dutchman Taron Griekspoor.

Musetti expressed his desire to “take revenge” for last year’s final loss, saying he hopes this year “will go even better.”

**Medvedev Off to Solid Start in Hangzhou, Rublev Suffers Shock Exit**

At the Hangzhou Open, second-seeded Daniil Medvedev secured a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory over American qualifier Nishesh Basavareddy. The former world No. 1 is looking to turn his season around and praised his performance in the opening match. He will face hometown favorite Wu Yibing next.

In a major upset, French qualifier Valentin Royer defeated top-seeded Andrey Rublev 6-4, 7-6(2), marking his first win over a top-20 player. Royer will face American teenager Learner Tien in the quarterfinals. Fourth-seeded Corentin Moutet and Argentina’s Tomas Etcheverry also advanced and will face off in the quarter-finals.
