**[City, State] -** Major tech companies, including Meta and Microsoft, have urgently advised their H-1B visa-holding employees to remain in the United States for at least 14 days following President Trump’s latest actions targeting legal immigration.
Internal communications, reviewed by news outlets, reveal that these companies are also urging employees currently outside the US to return within 24 hours to avoid potential re-entry issues. The directives come in response to the Trump administration’s recent changes, including a dramatic increase in the H-1B visa fee to $100,000 per worker.
President Trump, in announcing the changes, stated that the goal is to incentivize the hiring of American workers while ensuring that companies have a pathway to hire truly extraordinary people and bring them to the US.
Besides raising the visa fee for skilled workers to $100,000, the administration also announced a “Gold Card Visa Program” to include Trump Gold Card and Trump Platinum Card for individuals, and Trump Corporate Gold Card for businesses.
The H-1B visa is a common pathway for foreign professionals, particularly in the technology sector, to work in the US. Last year, India was the largest beneficiary of H-1B visas, accounting for 71% of the approved beneficiaries, while China was a distant second at 11.7%.
