**Litton Das Overtakes Shakib Al Hasan as Bangladesh’s Top T20I Run-Scorer**

**Dubai, UAE – September 21, 2025** – In a historic moment for Bangladeshi cricket, captain Litton Das has surpassed legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan to become the nation’s leading run-scorer in T20 International cricket. The record was broken during Bangladesh’s Super Four clash against Sri Lanka at the Asia Cup 2025 held on Saturday, September 20 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Das achieved the milestone with a brisk 23-run innings off just 16 balls, pushing his career tally to 2557 runs in 114 matches. He needed just 18 runs coming into the game to eclipse Shakib Al Hasan’s previous record of 2551 runs accumulated over 129 matches.

The updated list of top T20I run-scorers for Bangladesh now stands as follows:

1. **Litton Das:** 2557 runs (114 matches)
2. **Shakib Al Hasan:** 2551 runs (129 matches)
3. **Mahmudullah:** 2444 runs (141 matches)
4. **Tamim Iqbal:** 1701 runs (74 matches)
5. **Mushfiqur Rahim:** 1500 runs (102 matches)

In the match itself, Bangladesh opted to bowl first after winning the toss. “When I saw the first leg, all the matches were won by the teams batting second easily. And, I am a bit confused about the pitch, that’s why we chose to bowl,” explained Das at the toss. He also announced two changes to the team, with Shoriful Islam and Mahedi Hasan replacing Nurul Hasan Sohan and Rishad Hossain.

Sri Lanka set a target of 169 for Bangladesh, thanks to a blistering unbeaten 64 from 37 balls by Dasun Shanaka and a solid 34 from 25 deliveries by Kusal Mendis. Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka stated at the toss that he would have opted to bowl first as well, mentioning that the pitch was on the dry side and that they are going with the same eleven as before.

The result of the match was not included, as the focus was the record-breaking event for Litton Das.
