**Landslip Disrupts Traffic on Agumbe Ghat; Driver Injured**

**Mangaluru, September 20, 2025:** A major landslip on the Agumbe Ghat in Shivamogga district brought traffic to a standstill between Udupi, Shivamogga, and Chikkamagaluru districts since yesterday evening. The incident occurred at the 6th hairpin curve on the Malpe-Tirthahalli National Highway 169A, burying a pick-up truck under a mass of soil and trees.

The driver of the pick-up sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Manipal. His condition is said to be stable.

The National Highways Division of the Karnataka Public Works Department (NH-PWD), along with Agumbe and Hebri police, immediately launched a clearing operation. Fallen trees were removed by 9 am this morning, followed by the removal of soil debris.

“The incessant rains we’ve been experiencing are likely the primary cause of this landslip,” said Manjunath Naik, Assistant Executive Engineer, NH-PWD. He also noted a similar incident at HB Curve 11 recently.

Hebri Police Sub Inspector T M Mahesh confirmed that the Ghat was reopened for vehicular traffic by around noon today. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while traversing the area.
