**Abu Dhabi -** Sri Lanka secured their place in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025 after defeating Afghanistan by six wickets in a crucial Group B match in Abu Dhabi. The victory also sealed Afghanistan’s fate, eliminating them from the tournament and paving the way for Bangladesh to advance alongside Sri Lanka.
Chasing a target of 170, Sri Lanka strategically reached the 101-run mark in the 13th over, guaranteeing their qualification. Kusal Mendis led the charge with an impressive, unbeaten 74.
Earlier, Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi provided a late-innings surge, smashing a quickfire 60 off just 22 balls, including five sixes in the final over bowled by Dunith Wellalage. Despite Nabi’s heroics, Afghanistan could only manage 169/8.
With this result, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh join India and Pakistan in the Super Four stage, which kicks off on Saturday.
