Tue Sep 16 16:06:34 UTC 2025: ## UN Inquiry Alleges Genocide as Israel Presses Gaza City Assault

**Gaza City -** A United Nations inquiry has concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, as Israeli forces intensify their ground assault on Gaza City. The offensive, which began Tuesday, has drawn widespread international condemnation amidst reports of intense bombardment, mass casualties, and the forced displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians.

The UN’s findings coincide with the ground invasion of Gaza City, home to over a million people. According to the UN, nearly 65,000 people have been killed in the 23 months of war.

The ground assault has prompted harsh criticism from international leaders. Turkiye condemned the offensive as a new phase in Israel’s “genocide plans,” while other nations, including Germany and the UK, warned of further bloodshed and a worsening humanitarian crisis. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the situation in Gaza as “horrendous,” stating that the war is morally, politically, and legally intolerable.

Reports from Gaza City paint a grim picture of devastation and suffering. Al Jazeera footage shows intense explosions and widespread destruction in neighborhoods like Tal al-Hawa. Medical officials report dozens killed, with emergency services struggling to reach victims trapped under the rubble.

“There was heavy bombardment here, and it was difficult to reach people,” said rescuer Bashir Hajjaj, describing the chaotic scenes.

Israel designated al-Mawasi, a coastal strip in southern Gaza, as a “safe zone,” but reports indicate the area has been repeatedly bombed, leaving displaced families without basic necessities and vulnerable to disease.

The UN Human Rights Office has condemned Israel’s actions as “tantamount to ethnic cleansing.” Israeli rights organizations have also criticized the “evacuation” orders, stating they amount to forced displacement and violate international law.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over war crimes last year.
