**SALT LAKE CITY, UT** – Tyler Robinson, 22, of Utah, has been arrested and named as the suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative activist and social media personality Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. The arrest follows a two-day manhunt and leaves authorities scrambling to piece together a motive.

While officials initially reported the motive as unknown, speculation has swirled online and among politicians. Utah Governor Spencer Cox has suggested Robinson was “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” pointing to cryptic messages engraved on shell casings found with the alleged murder weapon, a .30-06-calibre, bolt-action Mauser Model 98 rifle. These messages, initially interpreted as anti-fascist, have since been linked to meme and gaming culture.

Robinson, a student in an electrical apprenticeship program, is a registered voter but not affiliated with any political party. Records show he did not vote in the most recent general elections. He resides near St. George, a three-and-a-half hour drive from the shooting location.

Adding to the complexity, Robinson’s family is reportedly staunchly Republican. A family member told investigators that Robinson had “become more political in recent years” and expressed dislike for Kirk. However, details remain vague, and authorities are still working to establish a definitive motive.

Governor Cox also referenced Robinson’s roommate, who is transgender and cooperating with investigators. The roommate’s identity has sparked concern among LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, who warn against drawing unsubstantiated connections between the crime and the trans community.

According to court documents, Robinson’s roommate provided electronic messages where Robinson describes leaving and retrieving a rifle wrapped in a towel and engraving bullets. Robinson is reportedly not cooperating with the investigation.
