The incident occurred around 12:30 PM on the Thattathumala-Vattappara road, near the Thiruvananthapuram-Kollam border.

The bus, belonging to Believers Church Vidya Jyothi English School in Kilimanoor, was transporting students home after classes when the accident took place.
