**Pro Kabaddi League Aims for Global Dominance, Prioritizes Fans, Talent, and Governance**
**NEW DELHI, September 13** – Professional leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) are revolutionizing Indian sports, but balancing scale, sustainability, and global competitiveness is key for their success. This was the message from Anupam Goswami, Business Head of Mashal Sports and League Chairman of PKL, speaking at the PlayCom 2025: Business of Sports Summit in New Delhi on Friday.
Goswami outlined four fundamental pillars crucial for the next phase of growth for any sports league: engaging fans, maintaining a high quality of competition, developing a robust talent pipeline, and establishing strong governance. He emphasized the need for constant platform updates based on fan demand, ensuring the competition represents the highest level of the sport, nurturing future talent, and implementing a governance structure that ensures sustainability and drives future growth.
Acknowledging the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the benchmark, Goswami stated PKL aims for a similar level of success, focusing on deepening the level of competition. He emphasized PKL’s global outlook from its inception, stating, “One of the goals for the league was to grow kabaddi beyond India. For that, you must enable the best talent – Indian and international – to perform before fans.” He cited the competitive challenge posed by teams like Iran as a positive sign of the league’s global impact.
Goswami also highlighted PKL’s transformative impact on Indian kabaddi players, providing structured pathways for their growth. “I can guarantee that the entire Indian senior men’s team for next year’s Asian Games will be drawn from the PKL system,” he said, highlighting how the league exposes athletes to modern sports science and enhances their recognition.
Concluding, Goswami stressed PKL’s responsibility to build for the future by adopting modern practices, creating opportunities, and enhancing athlete recognition. “With sustained focus on governance, competition, talent, and fans, PKL can emerge as one of the finest sporting leagues not just in India, but in the world,” he said.
