**Longhorns’ Backfield Depth Tested as Baxter Injured in UTEP Game**

AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Longhorns football team suffered another blow to its offense Saturday after running back CJ Baxter left the game against UTEP with an apparent injury on the first play from scrimmage. Baxter, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, walked off the field under his own power, but the nature and severity of the injury are currently unknown.

This injury comes at an inopportune time for the Longhorns, who are already without running back Quintrevion Wisner and wide receivers DeAndre Moore Jr. and Emmett Mosley V. The offense has struggled to find its rhythm in the early part of the season, and Baxter’s potential absence will further strain the team’s depth.

If both Baxter and Wisner are sidelined, the Longhorns will rely heavily on a young trio of backs: Jerrick Gibson, Christian Clark, and James Simon. Gibson, a freshman, recently fumbled in the win against San Jose State, prompting a message of encouragement from Baxter to learn from the mistake.

“[Fumbling is] one of the worst things to do,” Baxter said. “I told him to pick his head up…look at the reason you fumbled and fix it.”

Baxter also commented on the potential of fellow young back, Clark: “He’s [Clark] getting better each and every day; you can see it in practice. He’ll be great, I promise, he’ll be great.”

The Longhorns will be closely monitoring Baxter’s condition as they prepare for their upcoming games. The team will need its young backs to step up if they hope to maintain a strong running game.
