Sun Sep 14 07:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Somerset Clinch Thrilling T20 Blast Victory, Overhauling Hampshire in Edgbaston Thriller

**Edgbaston, UK** – Somerset secured their third T20 Blast title in a nail-biting final against Hampshire at Edgbaston, chasing down a record-breaking 195 with an over to spare. Will Smeed’s explosive 94 off 58 balls anchored the Somerset innings, while a crucial unbeaten 33 from Sean Dickson steered them home.

Hampshire had earlier posted a formidable 194-6, led by Toby Albert’s impressive 85 and a solid 52 from captain James Vince. Albert’s knock also made him the leading run-scorer in this year’s tournament.

However, Smeed’s masterclass proved to be the difference. Despite losing partners early, Smeed maintained the scoring rate, smashing 14 fours and a six before falling in the 19th over with 18 still required. Captain Lewis Gregory then stepped up, hitting two sixes to seal the victory in dramatic fashion.

“The guys have been unbelievable in the whole competition,” said Smeed. “Different people have stood up in different games. That’s probably our strength, we’ve got match winners one to 11.”

Somerset’s victory marks their third T20 Blast title, joining Hampshire and Leicestershire with that tally. Having reached three consecutive finals, and winning two of them Somerset establish themselves as the dominant force in English T20 cricket.

“Unbelievable, super chuffed for the boys,” said Somerset captain Lewis Gregory. “Year in, year out we’re challenging for this trophy and to get over the line is mighty special. We’ve got a team with guys who can win matches on their own and we’ve seen that over the past few games.”

Despite the defeat, Hampshire opener Toby Albert said that he enjoyed a break through season. Hampshire head coach Adrian Birrell praised his team’s efforts but lamented the execution in the face of Somerset’s aggressive batting.
