Sun Sep 14 09:40:11 UTC 2025: **Humanitarian Crisis Deepens as Displaced Gazans Face Dire Conditions in Al-Mawasi**
**Gaza –** As Israeli forces continue their bombardment of Gaza City, thousands of Palestinians are fleeing south, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian situation in the overcrowded and repeatedly attacked al-Mawasi area. According to the Palestinian Civil Defence, over 6,000 people were displaced on Saturday alone, joining the estimated 900,000 already struggling within the besieged city.
The relentless Israeli strikes, described by some as indiscriminate carpet bombing, are reportedly claiming dozens of civilian lives daily, fueling the mass exodus. Displaced Palestinians, like Khalil Matar, express desperation and uncertainty, stating, “We keep moving… there are no safe zones.”
Al-Mawasi, designated by Israel as a “safe zone,” is struggling to accommodate the influx of displaced people. Reports indicate severe overcrowding, resource scarcity, and ongoing Israeli strikes, casting doubt on its safety. Al Jazeera’s Hind Khoudary described the scenes in al-Mawasi as “very chaotic” as families arrive with few resources.
One displaced man told Al Jazeera his family’s tent was no longer usable and they had nowhere to go, saying, “Not only are missiles pouring down on our heads, but famine is devouring us too.”
Displaced journalist Ahmed al-Najjar, currently in al-Mawasi, disputes the “safe zone” designation, recounting personal tragedies and horrific scenes of violence. “How can I call it safe when Israel killed and bombed my own sister within this ‘safe zone’?” he asked.
Faced with the dangerous and inadequate conditions in al-Mawasi, some displaced Palestinians are reportedly considering returning to Gaza City, despite the ongoing bombardment. Faraj Ashour, who lost his legs in an Israeli attack, cited high costs and the difficulty of finding suitable shelter in al-Mawasi as reasons for contemplating the perilous return journey.
The situation underscores the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, raising serious concerns about the safety and well-being of civilians caught in the conflict.
