**Bengaluru, India – September 12, 2025** – The Karnataka state government announced the promotion of two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, Umesh Kumar and Arun Chakravarthy J., to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP) on Friday.
Umesh Kumar, a 1995-batch IPS officer, currently serving as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), has been appointed as the DGP, Recruitment.
Arun Chakravarthy J., presently the ADGP, Chairman, and Managing Director of Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development, will continue in his existing role but with the elevated designation of DGP.
The promotions were officially announced late Friday and are effective immediately. The move is expected to bolster the leadership within the Karnataka police force.
