**Man Sentenced to Death and Life Imprisonment in Mangaluru POCSO Case**
**MANGALURU, September 13, 2025** – A special court in Mangaluru has sentenced a 51-year-old man, Fakeerappa Hanumappa Madara, to death and life imprisonment for the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl. The verdict, delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge K.S. Maanu on September 10, 2025, comes after Madara was found guilty of the heinous crime that occurred on August 6, 2024, in Jokatte, under Panambur Police limits.
Madara, a native of Hanchinal village in Belagavi district, was charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012. The victim, a Class 7 student at a government residential school, was staying with relatives when Madara forcibly entered their home and committed the assault.
The court ordered the death penalty for the murder charge and life imprisonment for the sexual assault, with both sentences to run concurrently. In addition to the prison sentences, Madara was fined ₹1 lakh, to be paid to the victim’s parents. The court also directed the district legal services authority to provide ₹4 lakh in compensation to the family under the Karnataka Victim Compensation Scheme and POCSO Rules.
The prosecution was led by Panambur Police Inspector Mohammed Saleem Abbas, with investigations conducted by Police Sub Inspectors K.T. Shreekala and Jnanashekhar. Public prosecutor Sahanadevi presented the case in court.
