**Gaza City Under Siege: Airstrikes Kill Dozens as Israel Intensifies Offensive**
**Deir al-Balah, September 13, 2025 (The Hindu)** – A barrage of Israeli airstrikes across Gaza City killed at least 32 people, including 12 children, on Saturday as Israel escalated its offensive and urged remaining Palestinians to evacuate. Medical staff at Shifa Hospital confirmed the death toll.
Israel claims the strikes target Hamas infrastructure, accusing the group of using high-rise buildings for surveillance. The army has ordered remaining residents to leave Gaza City “immediately” and move south to a designated “humanitarian zone.” Army spokesman Avichay Adraee said over 250,000 have left the area.
The United Nations disputes this claim, estimating 100,000 have fled since mid-August. The UN and aid groups warn that mass displacement will worsen the already dire humanitarian crisis. Overcrowded conditions in the south and the cost of transportation are hindering evacuation efforts for many. Essential supplies, including over 86,000 tents, are reportedly being held up from entering Gaza.
Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that malnutrition has claimed the lives of seven individuals, including children, in the past 24 hours, bringing the total malnutrition-related deaths to 420 since the war’s start.
Recent strikes targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar have intensified the conflict and jeopardized hostage negotiations. Families of the 48 hostages still held in Gaza are pleading with Israel to halt the offensive, fearing for their relatives’ lives.
The war began with a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 251 people. Israeli retaliatory measures have reportedly killed at least 64,803 Palestinians. The offensive has displaced around 90% of Gaza’s population and caused extensive damage to major cities. (AP)
