**Haynes King’s Status Uncertain for Georgia Tech’s Clash with Clemson**
ATLANTA, GA – Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King is showing positive signs of recovery from a lower-body injury sustained in the season opener against Colorado, but his availability for Saturday’s high-stakes game against No. 12 Clemson remains in question, according to Head Coach Brent Key.
King, a sixth-year senior, was sidelined for last week’s game against Gardner-Webb after being held out due to medical advice. His presence on the field would be a significant boost for the Yellow Jackets, as he showcased his dual-threat ability against Colorado, amassing 299 total yards and three rushing touchdowns, including the game-winning 45-yard run.
“Looks good, feels good,” Key said during Tuesday’s press conference regarding King’s progress. “We’ll make a determination this weekend.”
In King’s absence, freshman quarterback Aaron Philo stepped up, earning ACC Rookie of the Week honors after throwing for a school-record 373 yards against Gardner-Webb, despite early turnovers. Philo’s performance has provided a solid backup option if King is unable to play.
If cleared to play, King will be eager to improve on his previous performance against Clemson, where he threw four interceptions in a 42-21 loss in 2023. That game contributes to Clemson’s current nine-game winning streak in the series.
The Yellow Jackets will release their official availability report on Thursday, with updates to follow on Friday and again two hours before Saturday’s kickoff. Players will be designated as available, probable, questionable, or out on Thursday and Friday, with the options narrowed to available, game-time decision, or out on Saturday.
“We’ll follow the procedures and get it in,” Key assured. “We’ll do what we’re required to do.”
Fans and media alike will be closely watching the reports leading up to the game to determine whether King will lead the Yellow Jackets against the formidable Clemson defense.
