**Dayton Students Honor 9/11 Victims with Flag Memorials**

**DAYTON, Ohio –** Students from the University of Dayton (UD) and Wright State University (WSU) came together on Thursday, September 11, 2025, to plant thousands of American flags on UD’s campus, each representing a life lost in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. The powerful visual display served as a solemn reminder of the tragedy and its enduring impact.

Dozens of ROTC students from both universities participated in the early morning memorial, lining the campus with flags before classes began. For many students who were not yet born when the attacks occurred, the act of remembrance offered a profound connection to the past.

“It really helps put into perspective what that meant to Americans living during 2001,” said Stuart Schramm, UD Student Government President. “This is a reminder that we are all, you know, Daytonians, we’re all Ohioans and we’re all Americans.”

Kaylee Ballard, UD Student Government Vice President, echoed those sentiments, highlighting the personal significance of the event. “It’s very impactful for me just because I have two veteran family members, my mom and my dad. And so kind of just like being a part of something bigger than myself,” Ballard said.

University leaders hope the memorial will encourage students to reflect on the sacrifices and lives lost on 9/11. “Having a physical reminder to visually see that number – because 2000 – that’s kind of hard to conceptualize. But, when you see a flag for every single person, it really helps put into perspective the sacrifices and the lives lost,” Schramm said.

In addition to the flag memorial, UD will host its annual stair climb on Saturday to honor the firefighters who climbed the World Trade Center towers.
