**Sathyamangalam, September 12, 2025 (The Hindu)** – A Sub-Registrar from Sathyamangalam, identified as M. Tamilselvan, was arrested today along with a private individual for allegedly soliciting and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 for registering a property document.

The arrest, conducted by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police, followed a complaint filed by S. Sethupathi, an e-service center operator from Nambiyur. Sethupathi had approached the Sub-Registrar on behalf of Arun of Ariyappampalayam to register a 1,916 sq. ft. house plot. Tamilselvan allegedly demanded the bribe for processing the registration.

Acting on the complaint, Inspector Rekha of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police orchestrated a sting operation. Sethupathi was provided with chemically treated currency notes and instructed to hand them over to the Sub-Registrar.

During the transaction, a private individual identified as K. Sundar alias Sakthivel, who assists with binding and other work at the Sub-Registrar’s office, allegedly accepted the money on behalf of Tamilselvan. The vigilance team swiftly apprehended both individuals and recovered the marked currency.

Initial investigations confirmed that Sundar accepted the bribe on behalf of the Sub-Registrar. Both Tamilselvan and Sundar are currently in custody and facing charges. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption within government offices in Tamil Nadu.
