**DermaRite Expands Recall to Over 30 Products Due to Bacterial Contamination Risk**

NORTH BERGEN, NJ – October 26, 2023 – DermaRite Industries has significantly expanded its voluntary recall, initially announced in August, to include over 30 products, including lotions and shampoos, due to potential contamination with Burkholderia cepacia complex. The New Jersey-based skincare company issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a recent press release.

Burkholderia cepacia poses a serious health risk, particularly to individuals with weakened immune systems or those caring for them. Infection can lead to severe complications, including bloodstream infections and potentially life-threatening sepsis. While healthy individuals with minor skin lesions may only experience localized infections, the company urges caution.

The expanded recall includes a range of products distributed nationwide in the United States and Puerto Rico. While the FDA has not disclosed specific retailers, DermaRite has notified its distributors and customers via email, instructing them to immediately inspect inventory and destroy affected products.

Customers with questions or concerns about the recall can contact Sedgwick at 888-943-5190 or via email at dermarite5186@sedgwick.com, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), B. cepacia poses minimal threat to healthy individuals, but can be particularly harmful to those with weakened immune systems, especially individuals with cystic fibrosis.

Neither DermaRite nor the FDA has reported any adverse reactions directly linked to the recalled products. However, consumers are advised to contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any health issues potentially related to the use of DermaRite products.
