Fri Sep 12 05:40:00 UTC 2025: **Seattle Rookie Ford’s Clutch Hit Secures Mariners’ Tie for AL West Lead**

**SEATTLE, WA** – In a dramatic, extra-inning affair, rookie Harrison Ford became an instant hero, delivering a game-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 12th inning to lift the Seattle Mariners to a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Thursday night. The win propels the Mariners into a tie with the Houston Astros for first place in the American League West with a record of 79-68.

With the bases loaded and one out, Ford, making only his fourth Major League appearance, pinch-hit for pitcher Jose Castillo. On the first pitch he saw, Ford lofted a fly ball to right field, deep enough to allow Jorge Polanco to tag and score the winning run, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

“I didn’t know what to say last night, I really don’t know what to say tonight,” said manager Dan Wilson. “Wow, just another incredible ball game, incredible fight from the guys in the clubhouse tonight. These guys, they didn’t want to leave the ballpark until we won, and you could just feel it again tonight.”

The Mariners overcame a shaky start from Bryce Miller, who allowed four runs despite striking out a career-high 11. Seattle entered the bottom of the 12th trailing 6-5, but Polanco tied the game with a double before Ford’s heroics.

The victory marks the latest the Mariners have been in first place since 2001. “That’s what we’re playing for and that’s what this time of year is all about,” Wilson said.

The Mariners have won six in a row and look to continue the momentum as they push toward the playoffs.
