Fri Sep 12 15:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Oman Spinner Shrivastava Excited for India Clash, Dreams of IPL
**Abu Dhabi, UAE – September 10:** Oman leg-spinner Samay Shrivastava is relishing the opportunity to face India in their upcoming match on September 19th, a moment he describes as a “proud” occasion despite missing out on representing his home country. Shrivastava, who played state-level cricket in Madhya Pradesh, moved to Oman in 2019 after struggling to break into the Indian national scene.
“Playing against India is a proud moment for me. I am playing against a country where I didn’t get a chance to play. I can play there and give my performance,” Shrivastava told ANI. He also admitted it would be a “fanboy” moment to meet Indian stars like Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah.
While acknowledging the global excitement surrounding the India-Oman fixture, Shrivastava expressed the sentiment echoed around the Indian camp: a longing for the presence of former batting legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who retired from T20 cricket after last year’s World Cup victory. “It would have been more fun if Virat and Rohit were in this team,” he said, smiling.
Shrivastava’s journey began in Bhopal, but opportunities were limited. With the help of coach Jyoti Prakash Tyagi and Ahmed Bhai Manju Bhai, he relocated to Oman. Now, he sees the upcoming match as a valuable learning experience, not just for him but for Omani cricket as a whole. “This is a big thing for Oman cricket. This is the first time we are playing against India and Pakistan,” he explained.
Looking ahead, Shrivastava harbours ambitions of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “I am a die-hard fan of RCB. Virat is an idol there. So my first preference will be RCB. Second is the Mumbai Indians,” he revealed, expressing his admiration for Virat Kohli.
The September 19th match marks the first-ever competitive encounter between India and Oman, promising to be a significant event for both nations.
