**After a long wait, Team Cherry’s highly anticipated sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong, has finally launched, bringing a wealth of fresh mechanics and enhancements to the beloved side-scrolling action-exploration formula.**
Silksong introduces players to Pharloom, a kingdom distinct from Hollow Knight’s desolate Hallownest. One of the most significant changes lies in the combat system. Hornet, the protagonist, utilizes “Silk” instead of “Soul” to power her abilities, including a new, faster healing mechanic called “Bind.” This allows for mid-air healing but requires a full Silk meter, creating a risk-reward balance that shifts the tempo of combat.
Enemies in Pharloom are also more sophisticated, exhibiting defensive tactics and intelligent maneuvers, reflecting a world that is very much alive.
Hornet’s acrobatic abilities further differentiate Silksong from its predecessor. She can now grab ledges, perform quick edge jumps, and utilize mantling for brief invincibility frames, significantly improving platforming.
Beyond combat and traversal, Silksong boasts a more structured quest system. Players will encounter numerous NPCs who offer side quests that are actively tracked in the menu, a departure from Hollow Knight’s minimalist approach. Returning to settlements and characters reveals unfolding storylines and secrets.
Players will gain access to Hornet’s array of abilities used in boss fights from Hollow Knight, including traps, throwing knives, and a host of other tools. Combat styles are also now customizable through unlockable “Crests,” which modify attack patterns, charm loadouts, and even the Bind ability.
Beyond core mechanics, Team Cherry has imbued Silksong with subtle details, like ants carrying fallen enemies. Players can even find a musical instrument, the Needolin, to play to see how the world reacts.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is now available on the PlayStation Store.
