**Dallas, TX** – A motel manager was brutally murdered in Dallas on Wednesday, allegedly by an employee following an argument over a broken washing machine. Chandra Nagamallaiah, 50, originally from Karnataka, India, was reportedly attacked with a machete and beheaded.
The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a Cuban immigrant, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. According to reports, the incident began when Nagamallaiah instructed Cobos-Martinez not to use the malfunctioning washing machine, communicating through another employee to translate. Cobos-Martinez allegedly became enraged by this.
Witnesses say Cobos-Martinez then retrieved a machete and repeatedly stabbed Nagamallaiah. As the victim attempted to flee toward the motel’s front office, he was pursued by Cobos-Martinez. Nagamallaiah’s wife and 18-year-old son reportedly emerged from the front office in an attempt to intervene, but were pushed aside by the attacker.
Police say Cobos-Martinez then decapitated Nagamallaiah and kicked his severed head. A graphic video circulating online reportedly shows the suspect carrying the victim’s head to a dumpster. Cobos-Martinez was apprehended near the dumpster, covered in blood and still carrying the machete.
The Indian Consulate in Houston has expressed condolences over Nagamallaiah’s death and is providing assistance to his family. In a statement posted on X, the Consulate confirmed they are in contact with the family and are closely following the investigation by Dallas police.
Authorities report that Cobos-Martinez has a prior criminal history in Houston, including arrests for auto theft and assault. He remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
