**University of Delaware Mourns Loss of Professor Kimberly Walker**
**Newark, DE -** The University of Delaware community is mourning the loss of Kimberly Walker, assistant professor of medical and molecular sciences (MMSC) and director of the Medical Diagnostics program, who passed away on August 31, 2025, at the age of 60.
Dr. Walker joined the University in 2022 and quickly became a valued member of the College of Health Sciences. Described by colleagues as a distinguished scholar, gifted communicator, and passionate advocate for educational access, she taught courses in Clinical Physiological Chemistry, Regulatory and Fiscal Issues in Laboratory Management, Body Fluid Analysis and Diagnostic Bacteriology and Medical Mycology, and was developing a new course on Healthcare and Clinical Laboratory Policy.
“Dr. Walker was a remarkable scholar, educator and advocate who left an indelible mark on our college and the many students she mentored,” said Jill Trabulsi, interim dean of the College of Health Sciences.
Her research interests spanned infectious disease and health policy, reflecting her commitment to using science to inform public service. Prior to joining the University of Delaware, Dr. Walker served as a Congressional Science Fellow to U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone.
Beyond her academic achievements, Dr. Walker was remembered for her warmth, wit, and dedication to her students and colleagues. Esther Biswas-Fiss, professor and chair of the Department of Medical and Molecular Sciences, noted that Dr. Walker’s “presence brightened every interaction, and she will be profoundly missed.”
Dr. Walker held a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University and maintained her American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) board certification throughout her career.
