Thu Sep 11 02:40:00 UTC 2025: ## Sun Set on Disappointing Season with Loss to Dream, Uncertain Offseason Looms

**Uncasville, CT** – The Connecticut Sun’s season came to a bitter end Wednesday night, as they fell 88-72 to the playoff-bound Atlanta Dream at Mohegan Sun Arena. The loss cemented a dismal 11-33 record for the Sun, placing them among the league’s worst performers alongside the Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings.

The Dream (30-14), on the other hand, secured their playoff berth with a dominant performance, fueled by a balanced attack with five players scoring in double figures. Brittney Griner led the way with 17 points, while Rhyne Howard added 15. The Dream’s victory positions them well for the upcoming playoffs, set to begin on Sunday.

Atlanta came out strong, establishing a commanding lead early on. They outscored the Sun 31-13 in the first quarter and continued to press the advantage, taking a 51-28 lead into halftime. While the Sun managed a surge in the third quarter, outscoring the Dream 30-20, it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit.

Marina Mabrey led the Sun with 22 points and five assists, while rookie Aneesah Morrow contributed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Saniya Rivers added 16 points and five assists, and veteran Tina Charles chipped in with nine points.

The loss marks the beginning of what promises to be a tumultuous offseason for Connecticut. The Mohegan Tribe, the Sun’s ownership, is currently considering multiple offers for either minority or majority ownership of the franchise. One offer, from the state of Connecticut, would ensure the team remains in its current location. However, other proposals would relocate the team out of state. The WNBA has reportedly signaled openness to a potential move, provided the Sun doesn’t relocate to a city targeted for expansion.

Adding to the uncertainty, the WNBA and the players’ union are in the midst of negotiating a new collective bargaining agreement. These negotiations are not expected to gain momentum until after the playoffs. Until a new CBA is in place, the Sun, like other teams, will be unable to engage in free agent signings or trades, leaving the future of key players like Tina Charles and Marina Mabrey in limbo. The Sun now enter a holding pattern, waiting for the resolution of these critical issues before they can begin to rebuild for the future.
