**LOS ANGELES, CA** – Black Bear Pictures has released the highly anticipated trailer for “Christy,” a sports biopic starring Sydney Sweeney as legendary boxer Christy Martin. The film, directed by David Michôd and co-written with Mirrah Foulkes, promises a compelling look into the life of the International Boxing Hall of Fame icon.
Sweeney, known for her roles in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus,” underwent a significant physical transformation to embody the world-class fighter. Speaking at the Toronto International Film Festival, where “Christy” premiered, Sweeney revealed she gained 30 pounds for the role. “I had a nutritionist, weight trainer, and boxing trainer,” Sweeney explained. “We upped my calorie intake and I started taking a lot of protein shakes, supplements, and eating everything… constantly always eating because we were so active.”
The film boasts a strong supporting cast including Katy O’Brian, Merritt Wever, Ben Foster, Ethan Embry, Chad L. Coleman, Valyn Hall, and Tony Cavalero.
Early reviews are already praising Sweeney’s performance. Variety’s Owen Gleiberman called it a “true-note, game-changing knockout.” He further commented on Sweeney’s on-screen presence, noting the ebullience and joy she conveys in the ring.
“Christy” is produced by Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Justin Lothrop, Teddy Schwarzman, Brent Stiefel, Sweeney, and Michôd, with a team of executive producers including Foulkes, John Friedberg, and many others.
Audiences can catch “Christy” in theaters starting November 7th. The trailer is available now for those eager to see Sweeney’s transformative performance as the boxing icon.
