**India and US Set to Resume Trade Negotiations, Leaders Express Optimism**
**Washington D.C.** – Following a recent exchange on social media, India and the United States are poised to reignite trade negotiations aimed at resolving existing trade barriers and fostering a stronger economic partnership. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump have both expressed confidence in reaching a mutually beneficial agreement, signaling a renewed commitment at the highest levels of government.
On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi responded to President Trump’s post on Truth Social, stating, “India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership.” He also noted that their teams were working to conclude the discussions at the earliest and that he looked forward to speaking with President Trump.
According to sources, an Indian trade delegation, led by chief trade negotiator Rajesh Agarwal, will travel to Washington next week to meet with their US counterparts. While the specific dates are still being finalized, diplomatic channels are working to ensure the negotiations proceed smoothly.
President Trump echoed Prime Minister Modi’s positive outlook in his own statement, saying, “I am pleased to announce that India, and the US, are continuing negotiations to address the trade barriers between our two nations. I look forward to speaking with my very good friend, PM Modi, in the upcoming weeks. I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our great countries.”
Beyond trade, the two nations are also deepening defense cooperation. A US delegation is expected in India on September 17-18 to address Indian concerns regarding the pricing of six P8I anti-submarine warfare aircraft. Additionally, a deal to purchase 113 GE-404 aircraft engines to power the Tejas Mark I A fighter is slated for signature this month.
Despite occasional points of friction from some US officials, the overall trajectory of the India-US relationship remains positive, with both leaders actively working towards strengthened ties and a successful trade agreement. The engagement of Prime Minister Modi and President Trump also bodes well for the upcoming Quad Summit.
