**Thousands Protest Macron’s Policies Across France; Hundreds Arrested**
Paris, France – Tens of thousands of protesters took to the streets across France today, rallying against President Emmanuel Macron’s government and its austerity policies. Organized under the banner “Block Everything” (Bloquons Tout), the demonstrations, led by left-wing groups, resulted in hundreds of arrests and clashes with police.
More than 80,000 police officers were deployed nationwide in response to the protests, which saw demonstrators blocking highways, setting fire to rubbish bins, and engaging in other acts of defiance. Police used tear gas and made numerous arrests to control the crowds.
The “Block Everything” movement, fueled by growing discontent over budget cuts and rising poverty and inequality, emerged following a recent political shakeup. Macron’s appointment of Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu as Prime Minister, after the previous premier lost a confidence vote, has been seen by many as a provocative move.
“We are tired of his successive governments; we need change,” said Florent, a protester in Lyon, expressing the sentiment shared by many.
Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau reported incidents of vandalism, including a bus set on fire in Rennes and damage to a power line disrupting train services. While the protests initially appeared less intense than previous waves of unrest during Macron’s presidency, the spontaneity of the movement is reminiscent of the “Yellow Vest” protests that rocked France several years ago. The situation remains tense, and authorities are closely monitoring the demonstrations to prevent further escalation.
