**Indian Student Group Condemns Police Brutality at Vijayawada Protest**

**VIJAYAWADA, September 8, 2025** – State leaders of the Student Federation of India (SFI) have strongly condemned the alleged use of excessive force by police against student protesters in Vijayawada on Saturday. At a press conference held Sunday, SFI leaders detailed their accusations, stating that students participating in the “Chalo Vijayawada” demonstration were met with lathis, resulting in injuries.

SFI State Secretary K. Prasanna Kumar stated that the protest was a last resort, alleging that the TDP-led coalition government had failed to address student concerns despite repeated appeals and prior agitations. “Not a single issue of students has been resolved in the more than a year-long rule” he said.

According to Prasanna Kumar, the police refused student requests to meet with HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, and instead resorted to violence. He further claimed that a student named Kavya suffered a fractured hand and three others fainted during the police action.

The SFI is also demanding the immediate repeal of a government order banning student unions from schools and colleges, calling it a violation of fundamental rights.

“We are only demanding implementation of the promises made by the TDP and its allies at the time of elections,” said SFI State President P. Rammohan. Other SFI leaders, Usha, Madhav, and Shanmukh Jaswanth, were also present at the press conference.

The Hindu has reached out to the police for comment but has not yet received a response.
