**VIJAYAWADA – September 7, 2025** – The Andhra Pradesh government is taking significant steps to improve maternal and child healthcare services with the near completion of new Mother and Child Health (MCH) blocks at government hospitals in Guntur and Kakinada. Each facility will add 500 beds to the existing capacity, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the region.
Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav has approved ₹51.33 crore for the procurement of essential medical equipment to make the new blocks fully operational. The Guntur MCH block, a ₹86 crore project supported by the Guntur Medical College Alumni of North America (GMCANA), and the Kakinada facility, developed by the Rangaraya Medical College Alumni of North America (RMCANA) at a cost of ₹46 crore, are nearing completion.
The new facilities will be equipped with a total of 5,687 units of medical equipment and accessories, spanning 332 categories. Guntur GGH will receive 1,187 units of 37 types of equipment, valued at ₹23.51 crore, while Kakinada GGH will receive 4,500 units of 295 types, worth ₹27.82 crore.
The procured equipment includes essential items such as ICU beds, patient monitors, ventilators, defibrillators, ECG machines, mobile X-ray units, ultrasound scanners, nebulizers, delivery kits, oximeters, phototherapy units, and surgical chairs.
Minister Yadav lauded the contributions of the alumni associations and praised the dedication of hospital staff in bringing these vital healthcare infrastructure projects to fruition. The new MCH blocks are expected to significantly enhance the quality and accessibility of maternal and child healthcare services for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
