Sat Sep 06 16:10:00 UTC 2025: **Portugal’s EuroBasket 2025 Run Ends in Round of 16 Loss to Germany**

**Riga, Latvia** – Portugal’s impressive run at the EuroBasket 2025 tournament came to an end Saturday with an 85-58 defeat to the reigning world champions, Germany, in the round of 16. Despite a valiant effort, Portugal couldn’t maintain their momentum against the higher-ranked German squad.

Portugal displayed early promise, challenging the favored Germans with intense play and strong rebounding. Led by Neemias Queta, who posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, Portugal even held a narrow lead at halftime (32-31).

However, Germany’s experience and depth proved too much in the final quarter. Portugal’s offense faltered, and defensive gaps emerged, allowing Germany to dominate the final period with a decisive 33-7 run.

While the loss ends their EuroBasket 2025 campaign, Portugal can be proud of their performance, reaching the final 16 and securing their second-best result in the competition’s history, only surpassed by their 9th place finish in 2007.

Looking ahead, the Portuguese team will now focus on preparing for the European Qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, starting in November 2025, where they are in Group B alongside Greece, Montenegro, and Romania.
