Fri Sep 05 20:00:00 UTC 2025: **Buffalo Bills Place Kicker Tyler Bass on Injured Reserve, Veteran Matt Prater Likely to Fill In**
**Orchard Park, NY -** The Buffalo Bills announced Friday that kicker Tyler Bass has been placed on injured reserve due to a left hip/groin injury. This move will sideline Bass for a minimum of four games, starting with Sunday’s Week 1 contest against the Ravens.
In response, the Bills are expected to turn to veteran kicker Matt Prater, who was signed to the team’s practice squad earlier this week. Prater, a seasoned NFL veteran with nearly 20 years of experience, brings a wealth of knowledge and a strong leg to the Bills. The Bills must elevate Prater from the practice squad to the active roster by 4 p.m. Saturday in order for him to be eligible to play on Sunday. He can be elevated from the PS a maximum of three times before the team must choose to either sign him to the active roster or release him.
Prater holds the NFL record for the most field goals made from 50 yards or more (81) and has a career field goal percentage of 83.6% (407 of 487).
Bass’s injury was first noted when he was limited in Wednesday’s practice and subsequently missed Thursday and Friday’s sessions. According to Bills head coach Sean McDermott, Bass had been experiencing soreness in the affected area.
