**Mumbai, India –** Tesla has officially delivered its first Model Y in India, marking a significant milestone for the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer in the country. Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik took delivery of the white Model Y at the recently inaugurated ‘Tesla Experience Centre’ in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex.

“I am very happy to have received the first Tesla in India. It is a matter of pride for me,” Sarnaik said, emphasizing his commitment to promoting EV adoption. He plans to use the vehicle for daily commutes, including dropping his grandson off at school, to raise awareness about electric vehicles.

While it remains unclear whether the delivered model is the standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) or the Long Range RWD, the Model Y prices start at Rs 59.89 lakh for the RWD and Rs 67.89 lakh for the Long Range RWD, ex-showroom.

The launch comes just over a month after Tesla opened its first Indian showroom and introduced the Model Y. Tesla reportedly plans to ship between 350 and 500 cars to India this year, with the first batch arriving from Shanghai in early September. While initial bookings have fallen short of internal expectations at 600, the EV market in India is experiencing rapid growth, with sales increasing by 93% between April and July this year.

The Model Y offered in India comes in two variants, the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) with a 60kWh battery and the Long Range RWD with a 75kWh battery. Customers can book the Tesla Model Y via its official India portal or at the Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram showrooms. Deliveries and registrations are currently available in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram.

“We are also planning more charging points so that people can operate these vehicles without any hassle,” said the minister’s son, Purvesh, highlighting the family’s commitment to supporting the growth of EV infrastructure in India.
