**Duchess of Kent, Beloved Royal Figure, Dies at 92**
**London, UK** – Buckingham Palace has announced the death of Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Kent, at the age of 92. The Duchess passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family. The flag at Buckingham Palace has been lowered to half-mast in mourning.
Born Katharine Worsley, the Duchess married Prince Edward, the Duke of Kent, in 1961, becoming a cherished member of the Royal Family. While fulfilling her royal duties, the Duchess carved out a unique path, demonstrating a deep commitment to music, young people, and charitable causes.
She was a familiar and beloved figure at the Wimbledon Championships, known for both presenting trophies and offering comfort to defeated players, most notably Jana Novotna in 1993.
Beyond her royal engagements, the Duchess was a passionate advocate for music education. She famously taught music at a Hull primary school under the guise of “Mrs. Kent,” remaining dedicated to her students for 13 years. She later established a charity to help young people access musical instruments, believing in the transformative power of music.
In 1994, the Duchess made history by converting to Catholicism, a deeply personal decision. She volunteered with the Passage homelessness charity, embodying her commitment to serving others.
The King and Queen, along with all members of the Royal Family, join the Duke of Kent, his children, and grandchildren in mourning her loss. The Palace statement highlighted the Duchess’s “life-long devotion to all the organisations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”
The Duchess is survived by her husband, the Duke of Kent, their two sons, and their daughter.
