**Oscar Nuñez Returns as Oscar Martinez in “The Paper,” a New Spinoff From “The Office” Universe**
**Toledo, OH -** Get ready to return to the world of paper, but with a twist! Peacock is launching “The Paper,” a new comedy series set in the same universe as the beloved NBC mockumentary “The Office.” The show stars Oscar Nuñez, reprising his role as the pragmatic accountant Oscar Martinez, who is now working at the headquarters of Enervate, the Ohio-based conglomerate that bought Dunder Mifflin.
Created by Greg Daniels, who developed the American version of “The Office,” and Michael Koman, “The Paper” follows the same documentary crew as they chronicle the struggles of a small-town newspaper in Toledo, Ohio. The pilot reveals that Oscar relocated to Enervate headquarters after the Dunder Mifflin buyout in 2019, much to his chagrin. A title card reveals that Enervate can use Oscar’s voice, likeness, and face even though he disagrees with the arrangement.
According to Daniels, the concept for “The Paper” came about after realizing that Oscar’s character was one of the few from “The Office” who didn’t experience significant personal growth or change, making him a perfect bridge between the two shows.
In “The Paper,” Oscar is encouraged to step outside his comfort zone by the idealistic new editor-in-chief, Ned Sampson (Domhnall Gleeson), and even develops an enthusiasm for reporting on the arts.
Nuñez emphasizes that “The Paper” is a spiritual successor, not a direct reboot of “The Office,” with a new location and cast of characters. However, he hopes the show will appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike. The first season of “The Paper” premieres Thursday on Peacock, and has already been renewed for a second season. While Nuñez remains tight-lipped about potential cameos from other “The Office” alumni, he hinted that anything is possible, leaving the door open for future surprises.
