## Srisailam Left Bank Canal Project Gets Firm Deadline: December 9, 2027
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has issued a firm deadline of December 9, 2027, for the completion and commissioning of the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project. The announcement came during a review meeting with senior officials on Thursday, where the Chief Minister stressed the project’s critical importance to Nalgonda district and the entire state of Telangana. Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy was also present.
Reddy emphasized the need to expedite the project, highlighting its potential to provide water to target districts without incurring additional expenses. He assured officials that the government would provide the necessary funds through a green channel to ensure uninterrupted progress.
Contract agency J.P. Associates was instructed to be fully prepared and maintain its machinery in ready condition. “I will not accept even a day’s delay in the project,” Reddy stated, suggesting the agency and officials leverage the expertise of Singareni Collieries Company Limited for tunneling works.
To mitigate potential issues, an advanced heli-borne survey will be conducted by the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) to identify shear zones, weak rock formations, and fault lines along the remaining alignment. This proactive measure aims to anticipate and address geological challenges effectively.
Newly appointed Government Advisor Lt Gen Harpal Singh underscored the importance of ventilation, redundant systems, and thorough documentation of methodology for deep tunneling projects. He also advocated for training young engineers to develop in-state expertise.
Currently, tunneling has progressed 21 km from one end and 14 km from the other. Officials reported that geological conditions are favorable for the remaining stretch. It was decided that work will proceed in three regulated shifts, with junior engineers deployed on each shift to meticulously record daily progress. Excavation is targeted at 175 meters per month, with a daily target of seven meters from both ends.
The completion of the SLBC project is expected to significantly improve water access across Telangana, marking a major infrastructural achievement for the state.
