**New Delhi:** Tata Motors announced its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle (EV) sales in August 2025, reporting a total of 8,540 units sold across domestic and international markets. This represents a significant 44% increase compared to the 5,935 units sold in August 2024, a difference of 2,605 units.

While EV sales soared, Tata Motors experienced a 7% year-on-year decline in total domestic sales, encompassing both internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and EVs. The company sold 41,001 units in August 2025, down from 44,142 units in the same period last year.

Tata’s foray into the EV market began in 2017 with the Tigor EV, initially targeting government fleets under the FAME scheme. The launch of the Nexon EV in 2019, featuring Tata’s Ziptron technology, marked a turning point. This model, along with subsequent Ziptron-based models like the updated Tigor EV, Tiago EV, and Punch EV, achieved considerable success.

The company has now transitioned to its second generation of EVs, utilizing the acti.ev platform. The recently launched Harrier EV, boasting a range of over 500 km and an optional dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, exemplifies this evolution.

Tata Motors currently offers six all-electric models in India, with the Sierra EV expected to debut in its production form later this year. The company is also developing EVs based on its upcoming Avinya platform, promising a range of up to 700 km.
