**Anaconda, Montana – Bail Revoked for Suspect in Owl Bar Mass Shooting; Trial Set for 2026**

**Anaconda, MT –** Michael Paul Brown, 45, the suspect in the August 1st mass shooting at the Owl Bar in Anaconda, which claimed the lives of four people, had his bail revoked Wednesday in Anaconda-Deer Lodge County District Court. Judge Jeffrey Dahood ordered the revocation during a virtual hearing where Brown entered initial pleas of not guilty to four counts of deliberate homicide and use of a dangerous weapon.

Brown is also facing charges of attempted arson, theft, and fleeing from or eluding a peace officer, stemming from his alleged week-long flight from law enforcement following the shooting. Prosecutors are still considering whether to pursue the death penalty, citing the weight of evidence in the sealed affidavit.

The victims of the shooting have been identified as Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 64, a bartender at the Owl Bar; and patrons Daniel Edwin Baillie, 59, David Allen Leach, 70, and Tony Wayne Palm, 74. Authorities believe Brown stole a pickup truck after the shooting, later abandoning it before hiding in the mountains.

The case has deeply impacted the Anaconda community. Michelle Sixkiller, Brown’s twin sister and a former Owl Bar bartender, expressed the emotional toll of the situation. “Everybody involved, I’ve known. They’ve all been kind of like family… he just needs to know that his family still loves him and we still care.”

The Owl Bar has since reopened, with owner David Gwerder vowing to keep the establishment, a community fixture, open despite the tragedy. Gwerder alleges that Brown attempted to detonate an improvised explosive device inside the bar but failed. Law enforcement have not confirmed this claim.

A memorial benefit to honor the victims is scheduled for September 27th at the Owl Bar. The event will include a first responder ceremony, a taco bar, a silent auction, and live music. Admission is $20 for those over the age of 13, and there will be a taco bar, silent auction and live music. Any excess proceeds will be donated to the Owl Bar Victims Memorial Fund.

Brown’s trial is currently set for January 12, 2026. The affidavits prosecutors filed remain under seal, which County Attorney Morgan Smith argued is to protect the right of the defendant to a fair and impartial trial.
