**Browns RB Jerome Ford Embraces Any Role as Team Re-Focuses on Run Game**
BEREA, OH – After a dip in rushing attempts last season, the Cleveland Browns are signaling a return to their ground-and-pound identity in 2025. Running back Jerome Ford is ready to play a crucial part, regardless of whether he’s starting or coming off the bench.
“It feels like 2025, man,” Ford said. “We can’t look back.”
Ford, drafted in 2022, has proven to be a versatile asset for the Browns, filling in admirably for Nick Chubb over the past two seasons. In 34 games (18 starts), he’s amassed 1,378 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, adding 81 receptions for 544 yards and five more scores through the air.
“I really don’t need (the starting job) for motivation,” Ford said. “I’m ready to go at the gate, treat every day and everything like my number’s going to be called and I’m just ready.”
Head Coach Kevin Stefanski praised Ford’s all-around abilities. “He’s a player who makes big plays. He has the speed to go the distance on any given time he touches the rock. He has kick returned for us when he hadn’t done it in the past and worked hard at that. So, he’s a guy that we can trust in the run game, trust in the pass game, and has that elite trait of speed.”
Ford is also taking on a leadership role with the addition of rookies Dylan Sampson and Raheim Sanders in the running back room, helping them adjust to the NFL. Running backs coach Duce Staley noted Ford’s leadership by example, guiding the younger backs through Staley’s high-intensity conditioning program.
Sanders is embracing Staley’s approach. “I just like the energy,” Sanders said. “He showed the energy today and I feel like, just having a coach with a lot of energy is going to hype me up every day.”
As the Browns prepare for their Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7th, Ford’s versatility and willingness to contribute in any way will be key to the Browns’ success. “I’m a running back. I love (the rededication to running the ball),” Ford said. “I love it. And all the guys in our room love it, and we’re ready to do whatever it takes.”
