Thu Sep 04 06:00:00 UTC 2025: **Nationwide Protests Denounce Trump Policies, Advocate for Social Safety Nets on Labor Day**

Across the United States, Labor Day saw a wave of protests organized under the banner of “Workers Over Billionaires,” criticizing the Trump administration’s policies and demanding stronger social safety nets. Demonstrations took place in major cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C., as well as smaller communities, highlighting widespread discontent.

In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson vehemently condemned the potential deployment of federal troops to the city, stating, “No federal troops in the city of Chicago!” He led chants emphasizing local investment and the protection of every resident’s humanity. Protesters also gathered outside Trump Tower, echoing similar sentiments.

New York City also saw large protests, with demonstrators assembling across from Trump Tower. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand attended an Albany demonstration, emphasizing the importance of the labor movement and working people to the state’s economy.

In Washington D.C., nearly 1,000 people participated in a “Freedom Run,” protesting against what they described as Trump’s federal takeover of the city and the termination of federal employees. Similar rallies and community events occurred in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Adding to the day’s labor activism, workers at the Hilton Americas-Houston initiated a nine-day strike, demanding a minimum wage increase to $23 per hour. The strike marks a historic moment for the Unite Here Local 23 Texas chapter.

While thousands protested, former President Trump posted a Labor Day message on Truth Social, celebrating the American worker with a photo of himself shaking hands with workers.
