**Stephen Colbert Plays Late-Night Host in “Elsbeth” Season 3 Premiere**
Just weeks after CBS announced the cancellation of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Stephen Colbert is set to appear as a fictional late-night talk show host named Scotty Bristol in the Season 3 premiere of the CBS crime drama, “Elsbeth.”
CBS has released first-look images showcasing Colbert in the role, including one of him chatting with the star-struck lead character, Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), and another of him behind the desk of his fictional show. The episode, titled “Yes, And…”, dives into the behind-the-scenes tensions of a late-night comedy show, involving a host (Colbert), his head writer Laurel (Amy Sedaris), and her on-air sidekick husband, Mickey (Andy Richter). Amy Sedaris and Andy Richter are Late Show alumni.
The episode finds Elsbeth investigating a crime involving the late-night crew. Guest star Lindsay Mendez plays a police officer with aspirations of becoming a stand-up comic. Wendall Pierce, Colbert’s Elsbeth stint came about during Colbert’s February appearance on The Late Show after Pierce offered to get him on the series.
The “Elsbeth” Season 3 premiere will air as a sneak peek on Sunday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 PM ET/PT on CBS and Paramount+. Matlock, which will air as a sneak peek on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 PM ET/PT before both series return to their regular Thursday time slots on Oct. 16, with Matlock at 9 PM, followed by Elsbeth at 10 PM. The Season 3 premiere episode of Elsbeth is written by Jonathan Tolins and directed by Joe Menendez.
