**’Alien: Earth’ Unleashes Classic Horror with a Modern Twist: Episode 5 Director Noah Hawley Explains Its ‘Crazy’ Revelation**

Los Angeles, CA – FX’s “Alien: Earth” delivered a pulse-pounding, self-contained “Alien” mini-movie with its fifth episode, titled “In Space, No One…” The episode, a flashback to the ill-fated USCSS Maginot, acted as a near replica of the Nostromo from Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic while also introducing a potentially controversial twist.

Director Noah Hawley revealed a shocking motive for the Maginot’s demise: Boy Kavalier, a young tech genius, sabotaged the ship to acquire the creatures for himself. Hawley likened Kavalier’s reckless ambition to real-life tech billionaires like Elon Musk, saying he wanted to capture their “hubris” in the character.

“I don’t look at our tech billionaires and think these guys are orchestrating some master plan,” Hawley said. “I think you have a lot of ADHD billionaires with impulse control issues.”

The episode’s suspense was heightened by a mysterious crew member, Teng, whose android nature is left ambiguous. Hawley drew upon his “Fargo” experience for casting, assembling a strong ensemble of instantly memorable characters.

“When I realized that I wanted to do that flashback episode, selfishly I was like, ‘Well, I have to [direct] that one; I don’t want to hand that one off,” said Hawley

New episodes of “Alien: Earth” air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu.
